AX UNPLEASANT EXPERIENCE. | By Telegraph.—Press Association. j Christehurch, Last Night. On Saturday evening a party at " Taylor's .Mistake " had an unpleasant experience which might easily have ended fatally. Tlicy had set their nets for a trawl, a,ad retired to their bunks in a cave to rest when they were considerably alarmed by a bomb oe.-ng thrown in the opening of the cave and exploding. One of the party was hurt so much that he had to be assisted home. Besides this, clothes and rugs were damaged. QUEEN'S BIRTHDAY. Christehurch, Last Night. The squadron, consisting of 11. M.N. Powerful, Challenger, and Pegasus were gaily decorated with strings of Hags today in ho3iour\of Queen Alexandra's birthday. Punctually at noon 11.M.5. Pegasus startled the port with a salute of 21 guns, the band of ILM.S. Challenger playing the National Anthem.
LIVE ELECTRIC WIRE. Christchurch, Tuesday. A live electric wire at a busy trallic centre in Christchurch caused a good deal of excitement yesterday. The win l fell at the intersection of High, .Manchester, and Lichfield streets. It was one of the span wires that hold lip the trolly .wires for the electric trams. A cabman drove over it although the constable on duty warned him against doing so. No sooner had one oi the cab horses stepped oil- the wire than it fell writhing to the ground. The constable, with a jerk of the reins, got the horse oil the wire, himself sustaining a nasty shock. The horse, recovered quickly. The eonstables had great difficulty in keeping idle and curious people away from the wire. DISSOLVING A BENEFIT SOCIETY. Dunedin, Tuesday. The Union Steamship Benefit Society adopted n resolution authorising the executive, after conferring with the directors of the company, either to terminate its affairs by voluntaary dissolution or amalgamate with some other friendly society favorable to its reception. The chairman mentioned .that while the society had proved of the greatest benefit to members afloat, to little was it appreciated that of two thousand employees afloat who were eligible for membership only 107 belonged to the society. During the existence of the society the company had contributed ,l!47:!o—equal to lio per cent, of [ its accumulated funds. CARGO-BROACHING. Auckland, Tuesday.
