TARANAKI TEACHERS' INSTITUTE.

A meeting of the Taranaki Teachers* institute was held in the Education Board's offices 011 Saturday afternoon.

Mr Sandford, speaking as an outsider, pointed out that the primary and secondary schools should have." the same holidays at the same time. There was a general feeling amongst both teachers and parents that this should be so. Another teacher pointed out that High (School pupils had thirteen weeks' holiday during the year, and tlu: primary school pupils only seven weeks. Other speakers pointed out thai a hardship was imposed on teachers wliu had to lose part of their holidays through the examinations for leathers being held during the summer holidays. Xhey were penalised for trying io improve themselves and so also improvetheir pupils. It was decided to ask the Board to re-consider its decision to grant six weeks instead of live, for the following reasons:—(l)- That the examinations for tcachep are held late in January also in June (forty-two of the teachers in the Institute are going up tliis year); (2) six weeks are given in nearly every o:her district in the Dominion.
