CRICKET.
AUCKLAND MATCHES. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. The fourth round of the Auckland Cricket Association's senior grade championship was commenced yesterday, and was characterised by several tine batting performances, those of Sale (120) and Wright (120) being notable examples, the partnership of these two giving Parnell a total of 249 for the lirst wicket. The following are details of the play:— L'niversity, playing against City, made j ilia for the lirst innings (Faw'cett 43, ! dray 31) not out); City has lost two wickets for 42. I'on'sonby's lirst innings against Eden colts realised 20!) (llemus 84 not out, Francis 51); the Colts made 38 for two wickets. I'arnell against Grafton made 337 for three wickets (Sale 121), Wright 120, and llutchings 40 not out). ,:S'orth Shore against Eden "A" made 200 for the first innings (Kallender 7!>, Howen 44); Eden, has lost two wickets for 57.
EGMONT VILLAGE v. UNITED ! SERVICE "B." i The above match was plaved at Eg- ■ inont Village, and resulted in a win for the visitors by 24 runs. Egmont Village batted first and put up the respectable total of 73, T. Kinsella and O'Bryne batting well and very patiently. "Mr. Extras" also played a good innings for them. Dixon and Soulhall were tho most successful bowlers ior the Service. United Service then took strike, and, thanks mainly to several catches being dropped, by which O'Bryne's average suffered severely, they passed their opponents' score with live wickets in hand. However, the innings was completed, and produced in all 97 runs. Dixon, Preshaw, iPfankuch, and Dinniss batted well, the first-named especially showing
good fojni. O'Bryne carried off bowling honors, as, despite the fact that at least I five catches were dropped off his bowling, he finished with the good record of eight wickets for 53 runs. NEW PLYMOUTH v. HIGH SCHOOL.
New Plymouth'' met High School on the Tukapa ground on Saturday, and after a highly interesting and exciting game won by three runs. New Plymouth won the toss for the fifth time in succession, and elected to bat, compiling 75 runs. McLaren (31) batted well, but had a couple of "lives." Williams (12) and Cook (15 not out) were the only other double-figure scores. Ward, for the School, bowled splendidly, the batsmen being unable to take any liberties whatever. Excepting their catching, which was only lair, the "boys" fielded grandly. Going in to bat, the School did very well, and at the fall of the sixth wicket for 60 appeared to have the game in hand, but Severne, who was batting well, lost his wicket four runs later, and, despite a plucky attempt to "knock off" the runs by Wright and Glasgow, the School failed to get the four runs necessary to secuve a win.
