AUSTRALIA'S PROGRESS. UNDER PROTECTION. Melbourne, November 28 Mr. A. Fisher, Federal Premier, speaking at a banquet given by the Conference of Manufacturers, dealt with the progress of Australia under protection. He claimed tliat 21,000 additional employees had become engaged in Australian industries during the past year. The new Government, he said, would give manufacturers every assistance they re(Uiired in getting industries protected and securing the whole of the Australian trade for local industries.

Mr. A. Dcakiu said thai during the term of the late Government the trade ot Queensland had increased by £4,000,000, that of Victoria by 1:7,250,000, and that of New South Wales by £7,500,000.
