Mr. E. 11. Tribe returned yesterday morning to -V'w Plymouth from a trip to the Old Country. Miss Marie E. McDonald, assistant instruct l ® s3 in the WJiangarei Techniral School," has been appointed cookery mistress lrnder the Tanuyiki Education Board. The appointment will date from February 1. 1909. - As a 'result of the concert at which the Dominion testimonial was pres'entea to Mr. W. J. Wallace, the well-known footballer, of Wellington, the smn of £54 was added to the fund, bringing the total to £32o.—Press wire. The citizens of Manaia will entertain and make a presentation to Mr. John Hunt on Tuesday next in recognition oi his loiift public services to the town. Mr. J. McEnniss, S.M. for the Jit. Ida district, will retire from the Magtsuaey on March 31 'next. He has been in the public service for 40 years. He served in the police force for ten years, was clerk of the Magistrate's Court in Westland for 27 years, and was appointed Magistrate in 1900.
The Rev. John H. White, of Kimbol; | ton, who h attending the Wanganui District Synod of the Methodist Church to be held in New Plymouth next week, in on a visit to his daughter, Mrs. A. Wells, of Puinho, and has been induced to take service on .Sunday morning at Eahotii, and in the afternoon at Pungarehu. It will doubtless lie a mutual pleasure both to the congregations and their former minister.
