DISTRICT NEWS.
WAKEA. The Cape. Egmout Horticultural Society recently held a dance in aid of their funds. The music was supplied by Miss Marie Francis. At midnight a splendid supper was handed round and was much appreciated. Dancing was kept going until the early hours of next morning. Mr. T. E. Larking acted as M.C. On Friday last Sergeant-Major Dodd visited Wai'ca to drill the members of the local ride club, so that they could gel their capitation. Only eight members turned out to drill, and they paraded in Mr. Aylward's paddock in fro",it of the stoic. Our local blacksmith, Mr. W. B. Clarke, is progressing witih his new building. The milk supply at the local factory is still increasing, and is likely to increase for some time. There is now more milk being received than has ever been the case before. A new cream vat has had to be installed, for the present one proved too small this year. There are over twenty-four boxes of butter made daily. This is more than has ever been made in the middle of any previous summer. It is reckoned that the output will increase by four or live boxes a day yet. The season seems to bo a capital one l„r fruit. All the trees are laden and are looking well, especially plums It there are no heavy winds, fruit ought to j be plentiful this year.
WAITARA. A voting man named James Burns, who was arrested at Waverley on Friday last on a charge of false pretences, alleged to have been committed at \\ nitara, was before Mr. Fitzl.erbert, S.M.. on Saturday morning. His Worship pointed ont that the offence was a serious one, but as Burns was a first offender he would merely convict linn and order him to come up for sentence when called upon, but ordered Burns to refund the value of the goods as well « pay Court costs and solicitor's tee witnin seven davs. Oil Saturday evening next, from the steps of the 'post office, the returning officer of the Taumaranui clocUmiU will officially declare the result of the election. - , , Mr. A. T. Lake, of the Club Hotel, has secured tiro publicans' bootli at £2O, and Mr. J. W. Thompson the inside booth at £4, for the Waitara race meeting. „ . , Two butchers at the freezing works have been unfortunate enough to meet with accidents. Last Saturday morning J. Bowers cut the fi.st finger of his right hand and had to have it dressed. On Monday afternoon A .Bowen was killin" a sheep when the knife slipped, the result being a very bad cut just above Ids knee.
