TARANAKI AGRICULTURAL SHOW.
OPENING DAY—TO-MORROW. The entries for 1008 show of the Taranaki Agricultural Society have closed, and they are exceedingly satisfactory. There is a falling-oil' iii the home industries section, but the horse classes are better than ever, competitions have filled well, and cattle and sheep maintain their figures well. The great majority of folk will be content to learn | that the horse- classes are far and away I ahead of all previous records, some sixty I entries above last year's total having been' received. The judging of ladies' hacks, carriage horses, steeplechasers, and so on, is not to be compared for a moment with the judging of cattle and pigs, so far as the general public is concerned, as is easily proved by the attendance at the horses' show-rings. And this year there should be greater attraction thar ever, for the entries include the pride of the North Island's , horsellesh. Thoroughbreds, draughts,
carriage horses, exhibited by breeders from all parts and including several wearers of championship honors, promise to make this popular section more than ever attractive. In the class for lady's hack over 15 hands there arc .'1
entries, whilst in the following classes the figures also run into double figures. Pony'miner 13.1 eleven, pony under 14.1 ciewn, ',\ i iglil-carrying hack up to 12st. thirteen. best-paced horse eleven, be::t walking hack ten. In the harness section the onirics are.—Over 15.1 hands six, 15.1 hands or under, seven; pony uniler 14.2 hands eleven, under 13 hands ton, under 12 hands four, pair under 12 .hands four, pair over 15.1 hands two, pair harm-;-, ponies under 13 hinds three, tandem team two.

Si.ee'. in.l pig* have filled well, and the entries are made by breeders with a colonial reputation. In the dairy and other produce classes large entries have been received. Fourteen factories compete for Messrs Lovell and Ohristmas's challenge trophy of the value of 75 guineas, and eleven for the Taranaki Agricultural Society's second challenge trophy of the value of £25.
