SUPREME COURT.
WELLINGTON SESSIONS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Monday. At the Supreme Court to-day, Mr. Justice Cooper sentenced a youth named Ronald Jones, for two otlencea of breaking and entcriug, to 12 months imprisonment. He ordered him to be kept separate from the other prisoners. John Wilson, alias Kiely, was sentenced to seven years' imprisonment for bigamy. He admitted that he ban been previously convicted of bigamy. Wellington, Last Xight, At the Nuurciiie Court to-day, James lieid was found guilty of stealing various articles, including a watch and chain. Sentence was deferred. Maurice Daniel Paulmeir, charged with indecently assaulting a girl, was found not g'uiltv. Joint Butler was charged with assaulting Anton Larsen. The jury disagreed, and Butler is to be tried again. BREACH OF PROMISE. Christchurch, Last Night. At the Supreme Court to-day, the jury awarded damages to 'plaintiff in the breach of promise ease of Lorrie Morton v. George Walter Bnssett, of Oxford, sheep farmer. DUXEDIN SESSIONS. Duncdin, Monday. The criminal sitting of the Supreme Court opened 'this morning. Judgte Williams, iu his charge to the jury, said the cases were more numerous and of a inoro serious nature than usual. They included charges of attempted murder and assault on a young girl and a curious case of ill-treatment of a young girl by a married sister. Percy Johnston, eighteen years old, admitted a serious assault on a girl. The police gave him a bad character. The Judge declined to order a flogging, as in his opinion a long sentence without Hogging was prcfcrablo to a short one with Hogging and also better for society. He imposed a sentence of twelve years' hard labor.
AUCKLAND SESSION'S. Auckland, Monday. At the Supreme Court James McArthin- was sentenced to la months' imprisonment for the embezzlement ol .ClB5 from the funds of the New Plymouth Sash mid Door Company, of which he was secretary, ALLEGED PERJURY. Invereargill, Last Night. David Cochrane, secretary of the Frozen Meat Company, was charged on (lie informatioa of Watson lirothers, ' farmers, with committing perjury in, evidence given in a civil action in the Supreme Court l>,y swearing that unless he had instructions to the contrary, it was customary for the. company to ship on the first vessel without consultation with the shipper. The facts are Watson IJros.' sheep were .shipped by the Turnkina, on which a lire occurred. There was no insurance, and they broiight an unsuccessful action in the Supreme.
