The above match resulted in a win for the former team by 24 runs, after a very interesting game. New Plymouth batted first, and had lost nine wickets for 85, when McLaren and Baker opened out and very luckily added '44 runs for the last wicket. The "Bees" opened very badly, as they lost three good wickets for 9, and eventually eight for 72. However, the '"tail" made its debut and ran the total up to 105 before the last wicket fell. For the winners, McLaren (51, not out) carried off batting honors very easily, Williams (14), Lash (17), and Baker (17) also contributing useful scores. Whittle, Lash, and Baker were the most successful with the ball. For the losers, Dixon (20) and Simmons (24) batted in very good form indeed, whilst Preshaw (10) and Napier (13) proved very useful. Southall and Preshaw bore the brunt of the bowling, but both proved rather expensive. Following are the scores:— NEW PLYMOUTH. Muldoon, b Southall 0
