THE AUSTRALIAN SQUADRON
PUBLIC WELCOME'. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. Admiral Sir Richard Poore, commander of the Australian .Squadron, was tendered a public welcome in the Town Hall to-night organised by the Wellington branch of the Navy League. The hall was packed. Lord Phmket extended to Admiral Poore and his officers and men a hearty welcome to Wellington. ITc thought there was cause for satisfaction in the fact that the increased subsidy of the Dominion to the Navy had been given without the imposition of any conditions. Sir Richard Poor o , in his reply, spoke highly of the woi; of the Wellington branch of the Navy; League. A strong navy took in its i wake peace and not war. He complimented New Zealand on its generous] contribution to the Navy. He spoke of the -necessity of being able to quickly concentrate the fleet.
