SPORTING.

WAIIII SPORTS CLUB. |i ANNUAL MEETING. I Wet weather was experienced at tile Waihi meeting yesterday, tile attendance suffering in consequence. Racing did not start until 2 o'clock, and at one time it seemed as if the weather was too bad to permit of racing at all. However, the horses were on the course, and a damp but enthusiastic crowd of visitors urged the stewards to "go ahead," and the meeting proceeded through torrents of rain. Considering the unpropitious circumstances, the meeting went off very well. The trotting race was the feature of the gathering and led to several disputes. The scratch horse, Comfort, trotted an extra round, his owner contending that the horses had to pass the post four times, but after consideration the stewards dismissed the objection. A protest was lodged against- ttfo winner, Pearlie Maid, it being alleged that she had won a race which disqualified her for the race, but her owner denied the soft impeachment, and after signing a declaration to that effect the stewards orde -ed the bookmakers to "Pay the winner." ill'. H. George, tire worthy secretary, performed his duties, admirably, besides showing a bit of his "old dash" by piloting Glengariff into second place in the Hurdle Race.
