. SAWMILL ALMOST DESTROYED. " .By Telegraph.—Press Association. > • Timaru, November 19. Mr. J Jackson's timber sawmill, the largest in Timaru, was almost destroyed by fire this morning. It was discovered at 5.30 by a railway man on his way to work, who saw smoke issuing from the central portion. The building, which was of two storeys, was mainly in brick, with a considerable area of woodmen walls and flooring, while within was ' a heavy stock of timber in various stages of manufacture. It is most proliablc that the outbreak originated in ■tile engine room. The extent of the destruction is estimated at £OOOO, while tlie insurance is £2OOO. Preparations were commenced immediately for the resumption of work in other premises.
