TURK TOPICS. (By " Moturoa''). The Waihi Sports Club's annual race meeting takes place at Waihi to-day. Good racing and an enjoyable drive to and from tlio course has always attracted good attendances, and to-days gathering promises to be well ahead of those of bygone days. The first event, the Maiden Plate, is timed to start at 1 p.m., and a varied programme of flat hurdle, and trotting events fills in the j afternoon, the last race being run at 4.30 p.m. Good fields should faee the starter in every event, and a good days' racing may be looked forward to by those who make the trip to Waihi. With the Christmas racing carnival close at hand, owners and trainers are puzzling their brains to ''place" their horses to the best advantage. The Taranaki J.C. are not behind the tim-ss, and the programme for their Christmas meeting, advertised in this issue, offers sufficient inducement to owners to nominate freely. Two open races, the Christmas Handicap, of 120 sovs., and the Flying Handicap, of 80 socs., appear on the opening day's card, the other events including five hack flat events and a hack hurdle race. On the second day, the New Plymouth Handicap, of 100 sovs., and the Farewell Handicap, of 70 sovs., are the principal stakes. Nominations for all events except the Huatoki Plate, First and Second Hack Scurries, close with the secretary, Mr. E. P. Webster, to-morrow (Friday) at ft p.m.
