BROTHERS' FATAL QUARREL
JUDGES MERCY. liy Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Monday. At the Supreme Court Tilii Te i'ehi was charged with having murdered 'his In-oilier, i'i Tawa, on September 15 at lUmtoki. Tihi was minding a eow and calf belonging to another mail wlm Tawa drove them away after knocking Tihi down. In the quarrel which followed Tihi followed his brother and was again knocked down. He rose in a passion, picked lip a stick and struck Tawa over the head. Tawa (lied two uays lat'er.
The Judge summed up in favour of a verdict of manslaughter. The jury returned that verdict without retiring and added a strong recommendation to mercy. The Judge said it was evident that the prisoner was the one man who was most sorry for the crime, lie had been sulliciently punished by his rou.oise. He would be sentenced to live days' imprisonment dating from the opening of tire present session. This meant the immediate release of Tihi.
