ARCHBISHOPRIC OF YORK
DK. LANG APPOINTED. PRECEDENT THROWN TO THE WINDS. Received 10, 3.35 p.m. London, November 16. Dr. Lang, Bishop of Stepney, lias beea appointed Archbishop of York. Mr. Aequith expressed to the Bishop of Hereford regret that his advanced age prevented the Government from recommending him for the Arch* bishopric.
The Times says that Mr. Asquith's nomination oi Dr. Lang has thrown precedent to the winds. Plenty of people, it sav.s, will insist that the appointment is more courageous than prudent, but, admitting the risk, the Times expects time will prove them wrong. At any rate, certain wealthy Pan-Anglican sympathies will attend Bishop Laiuj'* promotion.
