RAHOTU. The annual picnic in connection with the llahotu Hide Club took place on -Monday. There was a good attendance, although the cold wind probably kept away a number of the lady friends. During the day the usual competition took place for the Guards' Cup from sera(ch and the trophies handicap. The conditions were seven shots each at 200, 300 ami 500 yards, and sonic good sliootiiig was done despite the fact that a lish-tail wind was blowing. The winner proved to be a comparatively na\\' member,'J. D. Christian, who put' up the fine score of !)4 from scratch, viz., 31 at'2o(l, 20 at 800, and 34 at 500. thus holding the Guards' Cup for a year, and with a handicap of three, winning the lirsl trophy (a handsome salad bowl) with a score of 07. Mr. J. D. Shepherd, with a score of !)0, won the second prize—a gold brooch. During the afternoon refreshments were handed around by the ladii's. and full justice done to them. In the evening a well-attended dance was held, Mr. J. Hothery acting as AM.., whilst excellent music was provided be Aliss Morgan. On. Wednesday the Oaonui Methodist Sunday School also held their annual paddock at Air.'; .Malcolm's paddock. There was a good'attendance. Refreshments were provided by the ladies, and the little ones' requirements were Well attended to by Aiesilames Cook, Pcnto- !<»«• and laisk and others. Thursday was a red-letter day in Raliotu. when the school was formally -e----opeiied after having been considerably enlarged as the result of much agitation. The ceremony took the nature of a picnic.
