COUNTY COUNCIL ELECTIONS

The Eguiont County Council election took place on Wednesday, and a good deal of interest was taken i.i it here (writes oar RaUotu correspondent). Eight candidates stood for the Rahotu ridin", and our townsman, Mr. A. E. rhillfps, topped the poll here with B7 votes, Mr. Maxwell coming second with So votes. The total voting also placed these two on top with the lollowin" votes:—A. E. Phillips 173, E. Maxwell IG3 The other selected ones were da?. Young (153), Thos. Harvey (1481 M. J. Mcßeynolds (120). The defeated candidates were J. M. Hickey (DO), M. Deegan (88), B. Warner (a member o. the last Council, 83). For the Oeo ridin", Messrs. RB. Farquahar ( R0), S. Campbell (.34), and C If. Huwt 48. were elected, Messrs H. Kawcliffe (4(1 and E. A. Collins (lift) being defeated. Vor Opunake. Mr. W. C. Dudley was returned Of the new Council, onlv three, Messrs. W. C. Dudley. Maxwell and Qiuipbell. were members ot the old Council.
