WAKiIA v. CARRIXGTOX ROAD. Our Warea correspondent writes:— The Wurea Cricket Uub signalised the opening match of the season and the lirst gain« placed on their boarded pitcli in Mr. Aylward's paddock by scoring a decisive win by 94 to 3(i on the first innings over a mixed team noin the C'arringlon Road Club. The local team, winning the toss, elected to bat, and rattled up 93 for ten men in quick time, the partnership of the two Australians, HcClure and Warburka, being responsible for 49. The former was particularly at home, giving an exhibition of fancy strokes all round the wicket, which played perfectly true and was immeasurably superior to the outfield, which was decidedly rough. The town team made 36, towards which Frank Robertson contributed 22, the rest being unable to withstand the vigorous onslaughts of Jenkins and Anderson, who bowled The visitors were hospitably entertained in the hall 10 lunch and tea by the ladies of the district, a large number of whom, together with their gentlemen friends, took au interest in the play and graced the grounds with their presence. Warca's second innings brought 27, and Carrington Road nine wickets for SS, when time was called.
The following will represent United Service "B" team against Fire Brigade at the Tukapa ground on Saturday, 14th November: Denniss, Dixon, Finlay, Kennedy, Lash, Napier, Pfankuch, Seabright, "Preshaw, Simmons, Soutkall; emergency, Napier. This afternoon Carrington Road will meet New Plymouth Rovers in the Recreation Sports Ground, when a good match should result. Rovers are without the services of Lash and Weston, whose places will be taken by Osbo.-'-ie and Quilliam. The Wanderers meet Waitara at Waitara. and an even game will probably ensue. T. C. Anderson replaces Baker, who is not available, in the Wanderers' team.-
It will be decided this morning whether the junior match, Carrington road v. King's team to be played on the Carrington road ground this afternoon will be a cup match. Fire Brigade ai;e unable to play to-day, and it has been suggested that King's team play to-day and let Carrington road play Fire Brigade next week.
