By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Wednesday. I'ive prisoners who Hud pleaded guilty lo various offences came before Mr. •Instice Cooper to-day. Archibald John McNeil, who Was declared a habitual criminal and subsequently admitted lo probation, appeared on a charge of false pretences. He was sentenced to (wo years', and the original declaration that prisoner was a habitual criminal remained. t On a charge of theft at Waipawa. lliomas Kane, alias Hayes, was sentenced to two years' imprisonment and declared to be a habitual criminal. A Maori named Downcs, for a theft near Napier, was sentenced lo nine months' imprisonment. A similar sentence was imposed on a sailor named George Irvine for housebreaking at Feilding.
