TEACHING OUR YOUTH TO SHOOT.
By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Xight. An interesting discussion arose at the meeting of tile Auckland Education Board to-day in connection with correspondence from the Department asking for information as to the steps being taken with regard to the proposal to establish miniature riile ranges in schools. The chairman (Mr. C. J. Parr) expressed his entire approval to teach the young people of New Zealand to shoot. He would move that they ask for a report on the subject from the architect and the officers commanding the school battalions on the question. He was very pleased to see that most of the candidates for Parliament had taken up the question of providing for further military training after leaving school. The enthusiasm at present engendered at school amongst the cadet corps was largely being wasted after tlie boys left school, and a lot of good material was remaining unused. Vie was glad to observe that nearly all the public men had taken the matter into consideration. Mr. McKenzie remarked that lie considered the proposal for training after leaving school one of the finest things that could be inaugurated in the Dominion. He thought that it would be a splendid scheme, viewed from the highest standpoint, as it would result in ■ keeping the young lads off the streets. He believed that .lie force of example would have a good effect. Other members also remarked their approval of the idea and the chairman's motion was carried unanimously.
