BOWLING
FiTZROY CLUB. The official opening of the Fitzroy Bowling, Tennis and Croquet Club took place yesterday afternoon. There was a good attendance of players of all three games. Several bowlers froui outside clubs were present. The president (Mr. A. Lealand), 011 behalf of the club, extended a welcome to those present. He hoped to receive the same assistance as his predecessors had in bringing the club to a successful issue during the ensuing year, lie then called on Mrs. Lealand to throw the jack in the usual way, and declared the green open for the season. On the invitation of the president, Mr. W. G. Malone also made a few remarks. He also joined in a word of praise to the president and remarked that the present stale of the gieea was due entirely to ilr. Lealand. The dub I differed from others, as all three games were played on the same ground, where members' of a family could all play their respective games, instead of some going to one place and some to another and lie thought it worthy of all to keep going. ha conclusion he called for three cheers for the president. Mr. 11. Dcmpscy also spoke. lie referred to the assistance they llad always received from the ladies, and hoped the club had overcome its difficulties and was oil the way to a .successful career. The green was looking its best, re fleeting 'great credit on the caretaker. Mr. Fuller. The new tennis court will . be ready for use in a week or two. and from its present appearance promises to be in splendid playing order.
