THE CORRESPONDENTS WERE SURPRISED.

A well-known newspaper man tells of the time when he conducted an "Answers to Correspondents " column for a newspaper. For the convenience of such subscribers as wished personal replies to their queries, the editor would send responses direct when stamped envelopes were enclosed for the purpose. One morning the editor was in receipt of two communications requesting personal replies, oiib from an anxious mother who wrote touching the proper rearing of twins, the other from a farmer who asked for a method of getting rid of grasshoppers. The editor, out of the fullness of his knowledge, wrote the two replies, but in the press of business got them in the wrong envelopes. To the mother of twins went tins interesting recommendation:—
