MT. MORGAN MINE DISASTER
Brisbane, November t. Sixteen men were working on tin slope at -Mount Morgan mine when the fall occurred. Eight of the victims were close together. One named iloore from a point of vantage evidently saw what was about to happen. He rushed t# warn his mates. The act cost him his life, but the timely warning saved the remainder of the sixteen men. A great mass of ore come down, killing Aloore, Martin, CUristensen, Hornbardeire and Butler. Three others were rendered unconscious. One of named Banks, is in a critical state. A man named Lyons was pinacd down by Martin, one of the dead men. while the earth was falling round, but a piece of timber kept tile or« ir>rn crushing him. lie found a candle and lit it. lie freed ihimself and then found Banks unconscious. He dragged Banks under the shelter of the timber. A moment later another fall covered the spot where Banks had lain, When the searchers sent down a rppe Lyons fastened it round Baaks and sent him up to the surface first.
