RAHOTU. Tile annual meeting of the Raliotu Alheitie Club took place on Saturday evening in .Mr. Hood's hotel. There was a good attendance. Mr. A. Phillips presided. The balance-sheet showed Unit there was a sum of £27 in the bank, £4 being cleared from the last spoKs meeting. A bonus of £3 3s was voted the secretary, Mr. L. Fischer, in recognition of his untiring work, while £5 was devoted to the Domain Board for improving the track, it was decided lo hold the sports on New Year's Day in Mr. Uiapuians' paddock. The following officers were elected:—President, Mr A. W. Hood; vice-president, Messrs. Jas. Garcia, J. Taylor, T. P. lluglison, J. Colmer, A. Gray, Newton King, W. Willoughby, T. J. Smith, and Dr. Walker; secretary and treasurer, Mr. L. Fischer (re-elected); auditor, Mr. Jas. Garcia; working committee, Messrs. A # . E. Phillips, J. Rdthery, S. Willoughby, A. Porteous, Geo. Horo, D. Penwarden, and J. dc Castro. Judging by the enthusiasm at the meeting, next year's Raliotu -Sports should fully maintain the reputation held by the Rahotu Club of conducting the best meeting on the coast. The committee, though a small one, is composed of energetic, hardworking men, who have, all been proved at previous functions. A vote of thanks was accorded the outgoing officers. Another competition for the Rahotu Rifle Club's trophy took place at the range on Saturday. The distances were 500 and 000 yards, seven shots at each range. Several new shots were present and showed good form. The winner turned up in 11. Baker, who scored 29 at 500 and 31 at (100, which, with his handicap of eight, made 08. The additions to the Rahotu School I are now almost completed, and it is I intended to celebrate the enlargement of the school by having an opening cere; mony on Thursday, 12th inst. Members and'officials of the Hoard of Education arc to be invited. The school children's picnic will also be held on the same ■day.
The annual examination in connection with the loi-al school took pHu-e at the 'hall on Monday. Inspector YVholtcr beinpr (lie examiner. The .plans and specifications for the new hall arc now almost ready, and tenders will he called almost immediately. The hall committee have received another welcome donation in some scenery which is being painted by 31:. Stanley. I have already viewed one scene, a drawing-room one. which is remarkably well done. A further description will he given later on. Rahotu still progresses. A new lnv.Hiug is to be built on Hit: main road ft>'' Mr. Kerr, solicitor; of Xew Plymouth, who visits here on .sale days. It is also understood that Dr. Walker will have consulting rooms.in it. At the other end of the township Jlomona. is creeling a billiard-room and stables. Mr. D. Oldham, formerly first assistant at the local cheese factory, and latterly employed by the Opunake Sawmilling Company, has just received fie appointment of first assistant at the Otimeta cheese, factory, near Invcrcargill. lie, leaves at once to enter on his new duties.
