WRECK OF THE FIFESHIRE.
FINDING OF THE COURT. AGAINST THE CAPTAIN. "; Received 3, 11,25 p.m. Sydney, November 3. The Fifeshire enquiry was continued to-day. Captain Nicol gave evidence that after the vessel struck, he muslered the crew and consulted the officers. Cliff, one of the officers, agreed with him that the vessel was a total wreck. There was three feet eight inches of water in the hold when they left. They sold the wreck for £5 and the boats for X.I. There was no chance of submitting them to auction. The Court found the wreck was caused by the gross negligence and reckless navigation of the master, John Niclml, in takhg the ship to a position he knew to be dangerous, nnd also found that Stephen Rowe, the first officer of the Fifeshire, was a man who ought not to be permitted to have charge of a ship owing to his drunken habits. Tho Court called on both to show why their certificates should not be cancelled. The Fifeshire was insured for £ooo©.
