The Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following cable from the High Commissioner ai Londono, under date October 31: Frozen meat—The mutton market is very dull, but New Zealand holders are firm, as prices arc moderate. There is no change in prices to report. The lamb market is quiet, with less demand nn.l no change in prices. The beef market is quiet but linn. Hindquarters are quoted at 3%<1, and forequarters at 3'/,d. ISuttcr—The market, is very firm with an increasing demand for better grades. The current quotation for New Zealand is 12(is, Danish 131s. Kussinn 113s, Australian 1235. Argentine 'l2ss. Cheese—The market is linn, with more enquiry for Canadian makes at 01s. Hemp—The market continues dull. There is -poor local demand, and no change in prices. l/iist week's output from Manila, amounted to 2!i,IHHI bales.
Cocksfoot seed-The market is very dull, and to push sales lower prices would have lo lie accepted. Bright, clean 1711. seed is .(Holed al Ms per cwl. (nominal).
Kauri gum—The market is steady, with a moderate demand. Current quotations: Ordiniirv to fair three-quarter scraped l(i.-.s. fair half-scraped . 100s, brown fair half to three-quarter scraped IRTs till, brown pickings (common In good) -17s Oil, hush fair to good pale and amber scraped l-'os. Hops—The' market, is quiet, except lor lines! I'.nglish. which are getting very scarce and are quoted at 70s per C\vt. American hops arc quoted at 45s per cwl.
