TARANAKI COUNTY COUNCIL
The ordinary monthly meeting of the' Tarmiuki County Council was held yes-! teniae. Present: Councillors Brown (chairman!. Hill, late. Adlam, Andrews, (leorge. Uopsoii, ami Stevens. FOREMEN'S REPORT'S. Foreman Bennett (.lunctiou road east, Moa ridingi reported that his lime had Iwii taken uj) in draining, gathering up metal, ana water tabling, on the Junction road, which was Ilu 'u- in good order. Jle was now attending to Tariki road, to enable the settlers to get to the creamery with lessdifficultv. Foreman M. J. .(ones (Tarikil. Moi ridingi reported that Hie roads under his supervision were in fair order, lie had erected notice-boards at the Ngatoro and Xgatoro-iti bridges warning the public that they were dangerous for traffic. Tlie Makctawa bridge m . e( led repairs. He had sufficient timber at the Maiigainawheie to do the work. .Mr. Bird had satisfactorily dismantled the old Manga nui bridge on the Tariki road. The Moa Road Board was liable for .t'2 royalty on metal carted on Tariki road to Ratapiko. Foreman Holmes reported that 37) yards of metal had been carted on to Jeffreys' contract, to re-coat a portion of the Richmond road. Instructed by Councillor Tate, lie hail engaged Mr. Rogers with his traction engine to roll' the new metal at Waiwakaiho. .Some new deck planks were required in the bridge near the Sentry Hill mill.—This timber was authorised to be procured. Foreman lluse (Omata north) reported (hat he had finished the road to the native village at Oakura, and lie had finished the entrance to Mr. Corkill's.
Foreman D. Brosnan (Omata south) reported that all the maintenance metal at the Katakara was used up. Ducfcer Brothers had made a start with lopping overhanging trees in the township. The engine-driver reported that during October there had been 310 yards of stone crushed at the Inglewood bacon factory. He had not yet shifted the crusher to the chain bridge, pending til? strengthening 0 f the Mnngaoraka bridge on the •)miction road. Foreman Walker |.function road. Moa riding) reported upon the. progress of contracts in hi* riding. TARIKI ROAD. I The clerk read an agreement signed by several settlers on the Tariki road by which they agreed to hear, the cost (equally shared amongst them) of constructing a drain through Messrs. Quiaton, Haylock. & Co.'s property, and connecting it with the existing drains on Tariki road, and all legal and other costs incurred in acquiring land from Messrs. Quinton, llaylock & Co.,' for the drain proposed to be constructed through their-property, the land necessary being given to the county.—lt wf.s decided'to instruct the county solicitor to take the necessary legal steps in the matter.
INGLE WOOD "TilV Mr. F. B. Gardiner, sanitary inspector, wrote in reference to the complaint concerning the insanitary state of the Itglewood borough tip on the Junction road.. He had brought the matter to the notice of the Council, and hud given instructions for remedying the Jilliculty. —Cr. Hopson reported that nothing had been done as yet, and the Couuc'il decided to communicate with the inspector.
ENGINEER'S REPORT. Mr. John Skinner, county engineer, submitted his monthly report, as follows:—! beg to report that the contractor for the Waiongona bridge lias not completed bis contract. The bridge, wilh the exception of facing up, is complete, and the earthwork near completion and ready for metalling. Traffic is now going over the new bridge. is instructed, I have made additional survey at Ahuahu, on Woods' estate. The previous survey was as instructed —land between the old stream and terrace. The new survey is of land between the old stream bed and land already taken for the purpose of deviation 'of the stream. The new area is three-quarters of an acre,, making iu a l l over l'/i acres of swamp land, including laud previously taken. f shall be glad of instruction re th" Henui hill (Cliff's) deviation. It is now over two years shce I began work on this deviation, and for months my time was taken up in consultations with the District engineer, county solicitor, the owners of the land, and your Council., As this has been without pay so far, it falls unduly hard on me.
As this is the last meeting of your Council, 1 should like to thank you for the support I have received during a most trying three years. The work devolving on me has been for the most part of a new class, and that has taken a great deal of thinking out. And that consisting of deviations of old roads and of rivers has been none 100 easy. To those councillors who liave assisted me and given me their support, 1 oiler my sincere thanks. After some discussion, the matter of Woods' estate was again referred. to Cr. Andrews.

Shaw applied to purchase two 12 liy 12 puriri post*.—lt was decided that the Council would reipure all its puriri for bridge repairs. The treasurer was authorised to transfer UKW from the Ilenui bridge loan account to the general account.
