The Second Hack Hurdles was an ex-1 citing affair. Hatley was left at the post. Speciosa and Indian Mutiny ran off and Golden Butterfly forgot to rise at a hurdle. Yosami led ■ all the way after stalling off a euallcnge from Joe Ward at the 'bend, came in and won 'by a length from Lebeceio, who was a head in froat of Joe Ward. Osiris started favorite for the Tradesmen's Hack Handicap, but was never prominent. Lucretius broke the line, Investment losing ground. The former led to the straight with Fulminator and King Post following. Mildura (Merviwee—Athol Brosc) came with a rattle at the finish, and won by a neck from King Post. Lucretius was half a length away in third place. the President's Handicap saw Irish Hide and Silken Ruin in most favor. Skye led into the straight, but Sand-, stream easily settled her in the run home, scoring comfortably by a length. Silken Kein was a couple of lengths behind Skye and Irish Bide, who got away badly and was never dangerous. The "tote" did not open on the High-' weight Welter Hack Handicap. Tainui was allowed to keep the lead to the tarn for home, where Nethorby dis> placed her and won comfortably. Wind, Netherby and Clovial dropp.'d out of the Hunters' Hurdles. Firestick made most of the running, but Balluneti won without an effort.
The Welter Hack Handicap was spoiled by a wretched start. St. Brandon got away with a big break and was never caught, paying a sensational price. Tangeroa, Kelso and Iliglulen linisncd next- 111 order. Polyanthus was the only defection from the Stewards' Handicap. Tie liebl was moved off in Tine, Simplex tnking up the running from Lotliai", Ton. Tulii and Full Rate. The latter, in company with flolden Eaglo. was first into the straight,, lmt tie St. (lenient's mare easily spread-eagled tier field, winning by three lengths from Toa T'ihi. who wa's two lengths b front of I'uHmJlate.
