The Devon, due from Liverpool about the middle of November, is bringing 47 assisted immigrants, of whom 1!) have •been nominated by friends in New Zealand. EXPORT OF BULLION. _ Auckland, Last Night. Bullion to the value of £OO,OOO was shipped by the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company's steamer Athenie, which sailed for London, via East Coast .ports today. AUCKLAND OYSTER TRADE. Auckland, Last Night. During the first season of State control of the oyster beds, the number of sacks distributed from the Auckland depot was 10,982. DISCOVERY OFHUMAN REMAINS. Auckland, Last Nignt. Some workmen who were engaged in (juarryiag at Mount Roskill to-day came upon a cave in which were a number of human bones. The matter was reported to the police, who had the bones examined by a medical man. The latter reported they had been bleaching for some 80 years, so that there is no doubt that it is some old Maori burial place that has been disturbed. THE X&AIKIKG- OF CHILDREN. Auckland, Last Night. Speaking this afternoon at a meeting of t'lioac interested in the training nf children, the Hon. Geo. Fowlds, Minister for Education, referring to tlie kindergarten system, said he considered it was important that there should bo an extension- of the system in the schools. He would welcome with much pleasure the extension of native study in the schools. The Department tvas prepared to subsidise £ for £ kindergarten schools under certain conditions that secured efficiency of teaching. He believed every teacher would be 'hotter for some training in kindergarten work. TRAIN DERAILED. Wellington, Wednesday. The Oliristchureli train from Whitecliffs to Darlield was derailed through a rail breaking. An engine was taking some trucks of coal into a siding and ran into a ditch track, which was jld and out of repair. ALLEGED REFLECTIONS ON AN ENGINEER. Christchurch, Wednesday. Mr. Palerson, engineer to the Selwyn County Council, lias written to ; tile Council demanding an open inquiry into serious imputations against his ability as an engineer, bis honor and - his administration, and allegations that, owing to his mismanagement, the cost of comity works 'has been excessive. The Council lias, decided to. ask M-*. l'nterson to slate definite charges.

It was pointed out tlint tliose travelling auctioneers paid no rates. It was decided to send a deputation to the Chandler of Commerce asking it to take action, tile matter lieing outside the province of the Half-Holiday Association.
