LAWN TENNIS.
TAKANAKI ASSOCIATION. A mc-etinjj of the Tarauaki La.vn Tennis Association was held on Saturday evening. (Present: Dr. Lcatham (president), Messrs. H. Stoeker (representing \Vaitara and W.Y.M.1., Stratford), J. J. Weir (Hawera), J. C. Niciii olson (Waverley), 11. IS. Armitage (IVfca), and the" Hon. secretary. .Mr. J. Pa tour A letter was received from the Canterbury Association recommending that certain alterations in the constitution ot the New Zealand Council should bo made at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Association to be held on the 30th. The amendments aimed at giving associations outside Wellington a, more effective voice in the affairs of the New Zealand Association. Also, it was pointed out that tue New Zealand Council claimed the power to forbid matches j between affiliated clubs and non-afliliat-ed clubs. This power, the Canterbury Association considered, should be vested in the local associations, which had a better opportunity of becoming acquainted with special circumstances. The meeting appointed a sub-commit-tee to consider the questions at a meeting on the following Monday. The action of the secretary in asking Messrs. M. E. Denniston and 11. S. Guy to act as additional delegates for Taranaki to the New Zealand Association, was confirmed. NEW PLYMOUTH CLUB. The annual meeting of the New Plymouth Club was held on Saturday evening. Br. Lcathani (president) "was i;i the chair. About forty members were present. The following officers were elected:— President, Dr. Leatham; vice-president, Dr.. Home; hon. secretary and treasure' - , Mr. H. Stoeker; committee, Messrs. J Paton, J. J. Weir, J. C. Nicholson, V.. Griffiths, and 11. .Stow; hon. auditor, Mr J.-A. Timilsford. The following alterations in the rules were proposed on behalf of the committee:—To increase the subscription for croquet members by ss; to provide that the annual meeting should be held in September instead of October; and to provide that the discount on subscriptions should only be allowed in consideration oi payment before December 1, instead of December 31. All the alterations were adopted unanimously. Tilr. Weir moved that a tar-and-sand conrt should be laid down on E. court, as suggested in the annual report. The president, in supporting the motion, mentioned that Mr. Stanley Smith had donated ~£lO towards the cost of laying the court. The anuounceme it was greeted with applause. The president announced that the oliicial opening would be held on November 14, but the committee intended to open the courts for play at the earliest possible opportunity. *He also stated that Mr. Stanley Smith had been appointed, overseer'of the ground. On the motion of the president, votes of thanks were accorded to Mr. Smit.li for his donation, and to Mr. Armitage and Mesdames Morrison and Pcnn for their services during last season.
