Mr. G. F. Moore, of Bushy Park, Kai Iwi, has had the bad luck to lose that good sprinter Dusky Morn, the five-year-old son of sou'-Wester—Swift, A week or so ago the gelding showed symptoms of lameness behind, and hi 3 trainer did not gallop hj m in conse/ quence for a few days. It was thought the horse was suffering from his kidneys, "but he appeared to improve again. Last Tuesday morning he was doing slow work on the Wanganui racecourse, when he was seen to falter at the bottom of the straight, and, after going a few strides, suddenly fell to the ground. A veterinary surgeon was immediately sent for, and on examination being made, it was found that the horse was hurt across the loins, being paralysed in tile hindquarters. Word was sent out to Mr. Moore, and on his arrival he had the animal removed to Die centre of the course, whore a tent was erected over him and everything possible done for the horse, but it eventually died. A post mortem examination revealed tilie fact that the gelding's back had been broken. The loss is a severe one, as Dusky Morn had proved himself one of the speediest horses in the land, and had some valuable engagements at the forthcoming C.J.C. meeting, whereat he would have taken an immensity of beating in the Stewards' Handicap had he gone to tin 1 post tit and well.—Exchange.
