CRICKET.
The first round of the "Wellington cap fixtures was concluded on Saturday. Details of t»e games are as follows: - Petone l>eat (Phoenix by nine wickets; Newtown beat AVellington by 80 runs on the first innings; Old Boys beat Y.M.I'.A. bv an innings and 77 run-; Midland (declared 235 for seven wicket*) drew with Gas Company (133 runs for eight wickets). Another round of the Christchur;h first grade cricket competition co'.nmenced on Saturday, the results lacing— St. Albans, 112, -v. East Christcburcn, 85 for seven wickets; Kiecarton, 54, and 12 for one -wicket, v. Sydenham, CO; West Christehurch, 252, v. Linwood, 2'j for two wickets. The turf wicket at Waitara is in excellent order for the opening of the cup fixtures next Thursday, when the home team will meet New Plymouth Rovers. The teams are as follows:—Waitara— Bodley, Hawkins, Eggleston, Bond, Skelton (2), Scrimegeour, Sarten, Dowsett,' Bayly, and Jones; emergencies, Purdie, Sampson, and Smeals. New Plymouth Rovers—Hasell, Lash, Weston, Braund, Price, A. H. Colville, Coppen, Elliott, Frank Turnbull, Williams, and Ingram. The team leaves l>y the 12.50 p.m. tram. The Wanderers will be represented liy the following in their match with Urenui at Urenui;—Jack, Goss, Nieo;!, Whittle, Hill, Baker, Steeds, Muldoon, Anderson, Smith, and Strang. Brake will leave National Bank corner at 10 a.m. sharp.
