ANGLICAN SYNOD.
COST OF LIVING QUESTION. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Duuedin, Lust Night. The Anglican Diocesan Synod opened this afternoon. The Primate, in the course of his address, laid renewed emphasis on lus remarks of last year that the price of the necessaries of life was rapidly increasing, while stipends remained the same as before, and he hopid vestrymen would seriously coasider whether they could not render more generous support to the clergy. He was strongly of opinion that the Synod made a serious mistake some years ago when it lowered the standard of the stipend required to constitute a district into a parish. Ho said very little progress had been made with the Co-the-dr.il building fund of tale, and he hoped the .Synod would take steps to promoto with more vigor this matter, in connection with the proposed mission from I England, the Primate said he had re-' ceiveil a letter from the liishop of Nelson stating that nothing had been settled except that the Bishop of S.epney had sipnilied his willingness to come out next year and do what he could to prepare the way for a larger mission to follow, lie (the Primate) had since heard it was probable that the Bishop of Wellington would prolong his stay in England to make more complete arrangements for tiro mission.
