Xto competition was less animated than at the September sales. There was a fur number of withdrawals. Crossbred* were at par to y 4 d cheaper, best comb- 1 jngs at September level. | The last sale of the year will be held en lith December.
LONDON MARKET REPORTS. Dalgety and Co., Ltd., Wellington, nave received the following cable messages from their London house under •ate of the 22nd instant: "frozen Meat.— The market for beef is firmer, and prices may advance in consequence W colder weather. Supplies of chilled beef have decreased. Mutton.— Market firm, but prices are unchanged. The market for lamb is firm, and prices since our last advices are >/ 6 d per lb higher. Tallow. Prices arc nominally unchanged, but the tendency is downwards. There is a very poor demand for tallow on the spot. Speculators are offering to sell for forward delivery at very low prices, but buyers arc indifferent."
HIDE AND SKIN REPORT. Dalgety and Co., Ltd., held their foitnightly sale of skins, hides, and tallow At Wellington on the 23rd instant, when a large catalogue of all classes was submitted to a good attendance of buyers. Competition, especially for skins, was brisk throughout the sale. Wool.—There was none offering, wool being held over ior the first wool sale on the 13th November. SheepsKina,—Market firm at last sale rates. The catalogue comprised some of quality considerably above the average. Prices realised were as follows: Halfbred 6%d to 6%d, fine crossbred 5%d to 6d, crossbred 4d to s>/ 2 d, crossbred shorts 3d to 3%d, crossbred dead B%d to 4d, crossbred broken 3d to 3V4d, crossbred seedy 2'/,d to 3»/ 4 d, hoggets 4%A, pelts 2%d to 3'/id, lambs (inferior) 2'/ 2 d to lambskins 9d to Is Id, crossbred damp 4s 9d, crossbred salted 2s fid to 4s 7d. Hides—No prime lots offering. The market was firm at last sale rates. Calfskins in particular were in good demand. Ox, 631b to 731b 5»4d to 5%d per lb, 421b 4y B d, cut 3'/ 4 d to 3%d; cow. 371b to 491b 4%4 to 4y 4 d, cut 3d; yearling, 151b, 4%d; steer, slippy, 2%d; dry hides, 3y 4 d; calf, best 8d to 6%d, inferior and cut 3%d to 4%d; hoofs, 2s per cwt; horns v 6s per 100. Tallow.—Casks in shipping order, 23s Dd; in tins, 21s 9d.
