Furniture 'and sundries sold at satisfactory prices. At Stratford on Tuesday 1 held a special sale of pedigree Jerseys in my bazaar yards, when about 30 head from the following breeders were submitted to the hammer:—Thomas Linn, Mangatoki; A. 11. IJaleombe, I'renui; Paul Hunter. Ilawke's Hay; W. liooth, Carterton; E. Eagle, ,jun., Carterton; A. Buchanan. Palmerston North. There was a good attendance, and nearly every line was sold without reserve. Yearling bulls made S'/o to 17 guineas, 2- to 3year bulls 14 to 40 guineas, 2- to 3-year heifers in calf 12'/. to Hi 1 /, guineas, cows in milk 15 l / a to 21 Vy guiueas. •My usual cattle sale, held on the same day, was well attended. All store cattle were in good demand and sold at late values. In the dairy pens there was a very large entry, find all heifers of good quality met with keen competition and made excellent prices. Small and medium quality were hard to quit at considerably less values. Good forward 5 heifers made £5 to £7 ss, others £3 los to £4 17s 6d, Jersey do. £lO. A I good lino of dairy cows, guaranteed, made £5 5s to £9.
WEBSTER BROS.' REPORT. On Saturday at our mart we had a good entry of poultry, prices being well maintained. Hens from 2s to 2s lOd, ducks 2s lid, gobblers 5s Gd to 7s Gd according to weight, turkey hens 3s 9d to ss, cockerels 2s to 3s id, roosters Is lOd to 2s. We recommend consignments. Fruit.—We had our first consignments of fruit from Auckland, Christehurcli. and Nelson during the week, since tilling over this branch from Mr. Newton King. Early tomatoes and green peas are very early thi 3 season and of good quality, owing to the fine spring. Lemons 4s to 6s, tomatoes lid to Is Id per lb., Nelson green peas Is 3d per peck.
VICKERS & STEVENS' REPORT. Messrs. Vickers & Stevens report that there was a large entry of cattle ill their Inglewood yards on Wednesday. Bidding was good for all classes. Mixed yearlings made from £1 5s to £1 Hi-. 15-months heifers £1 9s to £1 15s (id. yearling steers £2 4s to £2 !)-. L. A. NOLAN & CO.'S REPORT. Poultry. —We penned a good entry on Saturday. There is a steady denmml for all classes of birds, liens with ducklings particularly meeting with ready 1 sale. We quote: Hens 2s Id to 2s lOd, S cockerels 2s 3d to 2s !)d, roosters Is 9d to 2s 3d, ducks 2s Id to 2s 3d, liens and ducklings Ss (id to 12s, hens and ■ chicks 9s (id, sittings of eggs 2s Od _o " 3s (id. At the mart the usual lines ot furniture and sundries sold at about ruling rates.
AUCKLAND STOCK MARKET. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, UU., report:— llorses.—At the Durham yards on l'nilay horses were yarded in usual nuinhers and sold at late rates. Heavy draughts sold at from £24 5s to £32 15s; medium do.. £l7 10s to £29; hacks and light harness horses, £5 10s to £18; weeds, £2 IDs to Cli ss. At ll'ukekohe on Wednesday we lia.l an exceptionally large yarding of stm-l: of all descriptions, whieh met a ready s ale at advanced rates. Dairy eows sold at from £4 10s to £0 15s; do., lieife.-,. £3 15s to £0 ss; empty cows, £2 10s to £4 (is; grown steers, £5 10s to £0 14s; two to three-year-old do., £2 !0s to £5 15s; yeariings, £1 15s to £;j 4s: calves, £1 is to £1 17s. Beef, which was yarded in full numbers, sold at fully Newmarket rates. Cow s realised £4 5s to £7, and steers £(i 10s to £!) 10:-.
At Waiuku oil Saturday tlic yards were completely filled with stock of all descriptions, which were all wanted and sold well. Dairy cows sold at 4)5 us • 3 , £7 15s; empty cows, £2 12s (id to £4 10s; two to three-year-old steers, £2 17s Gd to £5 ss; grown do., £5 5s to £0 15s; calves, £1 8s to £3 4s. Beef sold at Newmarket rates. Cattle. —At the Newmarket Yards on Tuesday eattle of all descriptions were yarded in full numbers and met a ready | sale. Dairy eows sold at from £4 ]IJ-s to £G; empty cows, £2 12s to £3 IS-;; calves, IDs to £1 lis. The beef pens were again well fdled with cattle of extra good quality. Bidding was scarcely as brisk as the previous week, although quotations are the same, and the market showed a downward tendency. Oxen sold to 21s per 1001b., and cows from Ids to £1 Is per 1001b. Steers ' silid at from lits to CI Is per HlOlb. Steers sold at from £7 5s to £ll 7s lid; cows, £3 15s to £ti 17s (id. Sheep were yarded in average numbers at Newmarket on Tuesday and so'd at late rates. Wethers sold at from 1G S !)d to £1; ewes, 14s 3d to lilt; hoggets, 12s (id to 17s !)d. CHRISTCIiL'fiCH STOCK MARKET. At the Addington live stock market on Wednesday there were fairly large entries of stock and a good attendance. Fat cattle and store sheep showed improvement in price. Prime fat lambs sold at last week's rates. Fat sheep 'opened at a decline. Ihe yarding of store sheep was about equal to that of last week, two-thirds being hoggets and the balance 'forward shorn wethers and a few pens of ewes and lambs. There was a very good demand, anv change in, priees being in favour of sellers. The favourable weather conditions and abundance of feed encouraged buyers to operate more freely. The entry of fat sheep was larger than last week, and the supply being beyond butchers' requirements the sale opened at a decline in values, and prices fell further as the business progressed. Graziers then caine in ami relieved the market or a number of unfinished lines. Prime wethers IDs to 23s od, extra to 24s lid, lighter 15s 3d to 19s (id; meriuo wethers 13s to 10s l)d, prime ewes 17s (id to 20s (id, medium 15s to 17s, others 13s to 14s (id, hoggets l(»s Dd to 17s (id, shorn ewes 10s Dd to 14s 3d, shorn merino! wethers Ds, shorn hoggets 10s 10d, The yarding of fat cattle totalled 228 head, and included some lines of extra prime quality. There was a better demand than of late, and a general advance in price equal to about Is per 1001b. An average yarding of veal calves sold at 4s (id to 555, and extra wellgrown ami finished to £4. There was a full entry of store cattle, a large consignment from Southland being yarded. Tliese were mostly lightframed and in low condition. The local entries were in better order. There was not a very keen, demand, but some improvement was shown upon late sales. Yearlings made 10* to 22s Ud. 2-year steers C2 12s (id. 2-year heifers C 3 3s. 3-vear steers in good condition £4 5s to Co 7s, 3-year heifers £3 Us to £3 12s (id. dry cilws l.js to £3 10s. There was a very large entry of pigs, and all clashes except choppers sold well. Choppers up to C 5, heavy batoners 00s i to 80s, smaller to 58s (equal to (id | per M>.), large porkers 42s to 50s, lighter 38s 41 s (equal to (i'/jd per lb), large stores 35s to 40s, smaller 25s to 345, weaners 20s to 255. A line of 50 halfbred Tamworths made 40$ to 525.
DUXEDIX STOCK MARKET. At Burnside on Wednesday 204 cattle were varded. Prices at the beginning of the sale were much on a par with last week's rates. Cnlinished. eattle were, if anything cheaper. Best bullocks, £lO 10s to £ll 10s; extra, to £l2 2s (id; medium to good, £8 10s to £10; light and inferior, £0 10s to £7 10s; b'.-st cows and heifers, to £8; light and inferior, £3 10s to £O. Sheep: 2(120 yarded. Freezing weights were much the •same, but heavy sheep showed an anvance of Od to Is per head. Best wethers, 20s to 21s; extra, to 23s Od; medium to good, 14s to 15s. Fat lambs: 32 penned. These sold from IDs Od to 235, according to H ize and quality. Pigs: 135 penned. Suckers and slips were in good supply, but the demand was keen, and splendid prices held good. Porkers and baconers were firm at late rates. Suckers, 18 s to 21s; slips, 22s to 22s Od; stores, 33s to 375; porkers, 43s to 40s; light baconers, 32s to 575; heavy, 58s to (ifis; choppers, to 1355.
