UIWKIt KICXT K0A1). On Wednesday night last .Mr. W. (',. Malone, one of the enndidales in the Government interests, delivered a political address at the school. Mr. ltowhunls was in the chair, and in a few welichoscn words introduced the speaker. iNew matter referred to was that of the Dairy llcgulations. Mr. Malone regretted that an attempt hail been made to induce the farmers to believe that the Hegulu lions as first drafted at the request of the Dairy Association people were meant to have been enforced without opportunity for amendment. He himself, as an old dairy farmer, waß I about to go to Wellington to point out necessary alterations, but found that the Stock Committee was to take evideuce and that the farmers and dairy were to have every chance of making necessary objections. The Regulations were now admittedly reasonable and in the interest of the dairy industry, lie was strongly of opinion, however, that no registration feed should be charged. Votes of thank* to -Mr. .Malone and the chairman wee duly passed with acclamation.

THE MINISTER FOR LABOR, By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. The Hon. J. A. Millar, Minister of Labor, arrived in Christchurch this morning to attend the entertainment that will be given in Mr. Witty's honor at Papanui this evening. The Minister is optimistic- in regard to nhe result of . the election. He has no doubt that the Government will receive tho lt-nwv-cd confidence of the people. He states. in fact, that the prospects of the Government are very bright in all pafSs of the country and he has no doubt that the result will be gratifying to Mu anenibers of the Ministry and to tie Party they lead.
I 1 QUESTION FOR CANDIDATES. Chrisfthurch, Last Night. The following is a question that it being put to candidates by the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals:—"Seeing that the prevention of cruelty to animals is much more effectively carried on by the organisations specially devoted to the work apart from the police, and that the whole of the fines are retained by the Government, are you in favor of a subsidy being granted to the societies formed for the purpose of protecting dumb animals r lin most enses it is stated that candidates have answered in the affirmativu.
CANDIDATES' ADDRESSES. Danedin, Last Night. Strong pressure has been brought to bear to induce Mr. J. Loudon to resume his campaign for Bruce. His health has improved considerably during the last few days, and he leaves for Hanmer tomorrow. He has not yet decided wiait action he will take. Mr. Barr, Socialist candidate foChalmers, addressed the electors at Anderson's Bay to-night. The meeting accorded the candidate its best wishes in the campaign he has undertaken. Stirling. Last Night. Speaking at Stirling to-night, Mr. James Allen replied at considerable length to Sir Joseph Ward's speech at Palmcrston North, and at the close of his remarks was accorded a hearty votn of thanks and continued confident*. Christchurch, Last Night. Mr. Witty, member for Riocarton, was tendered a social by the residenti of Papanui (which has been severed from his electorate). The Hon. J. A. Millar spoke in eulogistic terms of Mr. Witty's political career, and expressed the hope that the people of Canterbury would send him back for many years to grace the House of Representatives. Complimentary speeches were also made by Messrs. Davey and Buddo, M.'sP., Mr. Witty and Mrs. Witty were presented with a silver tea and coffee survice and a tray bearing a suitable inscription, i :gf, Timaru, Last Night. Mr. W. D. Campbell, editor of tho Timaru Herald, has, in response to many elector*, decided to contest the Timaru scat at the general election a* an Opposition candidate. [Mr. Campbell formerly resided in New Plymouth, acting as sub-editor of our evening contemporary.] Wanganui, Last Nig'ot. The local election campaign opened to-night. Mr, Geo, Hutchinson, who is opposing the Government, addressed a large meeting in the Opera House. He had a fine hearing. Dunedin, Last Night. Mr. K. (I. Allen, candidate for Clialmors, addressed a meeting at Port Chalmers to-nigilit. He said he would still support the Government. The candidate was accorded a vote of thanks and continued confidence.
Hokitika, Last Night. Mr. T. K. Y. Seddon, present inem« her for Westland, opened his election campaign this evening, when, despite the boisterous weather, a very largo assemblage attended. A motion of thanks and confidence was carried. The mover of the motion read telegrams from the Premier unreservedly accepting Mr. Seddon as Government candidate, for W«3tland. The meeting at times was lively, but good-natured.
