MR. MALONE'S SPEECH.
To the Editor. Sir,—Mr. Malone deserves credit for disseminating sound democratic principles amongst the electors. His insistent and persistent advocacy of the right of the constituencies to select their own representatives will meet with the approval of all lovers and supporters of genuine democratic government. Mr. Weston called the second ballot merely a "palliative"—whatever that means—but Mr. Malone eulogises the measure as the sole effective means to secure the return of members who represent the majority of the voters in the different electorates. I think all reasonable pelsons will endorse this view, and I cannot understand why any candidate for parliamentary honours, lie he Liberal i'i' Oppositionist, should not welcome the introduction of such a broad and I'arreaeliing enactment amongst the political machinery of a seli-govcrning coinmunity. At last we, s hall have govern-, nieut "of the people by the people for the people."—l am, &c, AX ELECIOK.
