TARANAKI HOSPITAL BOARD.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the Xaranuki Hospital and Charitable Aid Board was held yesterday. Present: Messrs. F. C. Bellringer, li. W. Browne, J. Burgesa, (J. Andrews, J. 11. Hill, J. Brown, 0. There were at present 32 inmates, 27 males and 5 females. Dr. Leatham, medical superintemlenr, reported that there were now 27 patients, 22 having been admitted and 31 discharged. There had been two deaths, one from pneumonia after diphtheria and one from tubercular meningitis. The number of operations for th« month was thirteen. There were foer cases 'in the consumptive annexe, two 1 men and two women. MAORI I'IiOBATIONKR.

The Inspector General wrote that lie hoped soon to lie able to nominate a suitable Maori probationer for this hospital. The Education Board would : low 111) per annum for the lii'st year and .£."> for the second for books, dueling, etc., ami this would be paid by the Education Hoard dil'eet. The chairman said that it would be very undesirable that the members of the* -tall' should receive their remuneration from two different authorities. The dual system was bound to work out unsatisfactorily. It was decided to enter a protest against the system proposed. FINANCE. The Treasury notified that a- subsidy amounting (o £251 5s lid had been paid to the Board's account. 'Accounts were passed for payment: - Hospital £387 4s. charitable aid £BS 14s lid. Payments during the month totalled £853 10s 2d.
