ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
A WHALEK, KILLED. By Telegraph.—Press Association, Auckland, Last Night. A private cable from Norfolk Island reports that Frank Dates Kvans, the steerer in No. 2 whaling boat, was killed by a whale to-day. A PJiOULIAIi ACCIDENT. Wellington. Monday. A young man named Mage* got so excited at the pony races on Saturday that lie ran across the course at the close of onw event under the impression that the horses were all past. He , was knocked down by a belated whip- ! <per-in and suffered a compound fracture of the right leg. BOATING FATALITY. Greymouth, Monday. A sad boating fatality occurred at Lakti Brunncr on Saturday evening. Mr and Mrs. Green and family went out on the lake in two boats. They had proceeded as far as Horseshoe Bay and were returning home between 5 I and (i when the boy decided to change places with his father. As they Verc changing, the boat filled and turned over. As soon as the boat filled Mr. and Mrs. Green sank and were not seen again. The lad clung to the. bottom of the boat till the second boat came up and rescued him. The party spent a considerable time in searching for Mr. and My*. Green. but without avail. The boy states that his father could swim and he surmises that in trying to rescue .Mrs. Green he was drowned with her.
