liy Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Lust .Night. TUie Northern Boxing Association held a successful carnival in His Majesty's Theatre last evening, the house ■being well tilled. Several exciting contests were decided. Tile first bout was between two lightweights, L. McCarthy and R. Craig (Volunteer e'/iampion). Tiie contest went the fill! six rounds i Craig's condition and hard hitting powers prevailing in the latter round* over McCarthy's cleverness. The bout ! was awarded to Craig. Two !)sl -ffti novices, Stanniore and Myle>, unintentionally providvd the comedy of the evening. They were willing, but did not know much about Lo\i«g. The contest was declared a draw at the end ot six rounds. "Montague and Little (:ba?itam weights) gave a clover sixround oxhtbilioji. Thv referee declared for Montague by thv of margins. The event of the eveuing waf? between P. Kane (11.M.5. Pionfccr) and -I. Smith (Auckland), for the middleweight championship 4 of Xew Zealand, and a purse of £3O. Tile contest was for the best of ten rounds, and went the limit. Rotli men were in line condition, but Kane was sipeedior and cleverer, his foot wDrk and variety of hlows overshadowing tSinith. who relied on weight and heavy swings, im<l wUh both hands. Kane apiunvnily led throughout, and had Smith in a bad way once or twice in the concutljng rounds. The referee's declaration that the contest was a draw evoked a hostile demonstration from the spectators, the opinion in favor of Kane being almost unanimous.
