Bent) states that the llovpniment has not officially made any inquiries in fjoudon regarding a new loau. and has no intention of doing so. It is understood that unauthorised inquiries have been made by a Government official regarding the pos-i----hility of raising money, and that this lias .been interpreted as showing thai the Coveniment is anxious to float a loan. j LOXDOX DAIRY REPORT,
Butter. I Messrs. E. Griffiths & Co. arc in receipt of the following market report! from their London principals, Messrs. If ills ami Sparrow, dated September 4th:Danish—There has been a drop of two kroners this week, and the trade lias not revived as we anticipated. Buyers are fighting hard, and are making some of the cheaper Russians do wherever possible, hut we think these will only spoil trade, and it will not be long before they have to come back to something fine. Siberian. —Although the quantity arriving is much less, yet prices have lieeii reduced in sympathy with Danish. French.—Orders are free at the reduction, and there is a good trade passing. Irish.—Prices have not 'l>een so much affected by the drop in Danish, and butters are clearing as they come to hand. Xew Zealand.—The s.s. Wakainii is due to-morrow, and if butters open ill good order, we look for speedy clearance.
Australian.—lt is reported that shipments will soon be made, and buyers are anxiously waiting the early arrivals. Cables circulated in the l'ress all speak of fine rains and good prospects. There arc no flue butters in store here. Cheese.
Trade lias continued slow, but yesterday and to-day there has been more confidence shown, and ijuite a few have changed hands. The consumptive demand continues steady.
Mr. Newton King's weekly butter and cheese report from Messrs. R, & W. Davidson, of London and Glasgow, ufide r date September 3rd, is as follows:
Butter. Me cannot report any improvement in the condition of the market; i n ia<::t, on most grades there has been a slight casing* off, in .some cases Is to 2s per cwt. Our Copenhagen advices show the market in Denmark to be very dull, and the quotation to-day has been declared 2 kroner down. The weather during the past week has been cold and wet. Danish and Swedish.—There has been a very quiet demand for these grades, and considerable stocks have been left over unsold. Prices lor the week show a reduction of U to 2s per cut. Strictly choicest quality has been o/i'ered at ll'Js to 118s.
Siberian.- The demand for choicest quality has been much quieter, and pnees on thi s particular grade have been reduced Uto 2s. This weed's quotations are llllSs up to IlOs. For medium grades the demand has been extremely poor, and holders experience great difficulty in moving stocks. We quote choicest and medium at 102s to 104s. Telegrams received from Siberia show that the market there is steadily weakening, prices from all centres having been again reduced about 2s iit cwt.
-Irish Creamery.—Arrivals coming forward show very good quality, and meet with a steady demand at about Is lower on the week. Choicest quality 113s lo 11-ls. Irish farmers' firkins and butts continue in s teadv demand. Prices are somewhat irregular, ranging from up to 102s, according to quality and condition.
(.an,iilum Creamery.—Prices Inve been reduced Is to '2s per cwt., and at the reduction there Ims been more inquiry, ami stocks are moving out freely. Strietly choicest ipicUHy is now obtainable at )l'2s to 114 s. Cables ivd-iv-;! from Canada show that tlie market there continues to lie very firm, latest messages still rjnot riigr round about lids e.i.r. for eastern townships. •Australian—Practically no arrivals. Xomiual prices remain unaltered. Choicest quality litis. choice grades 108s to 112s. Our latest cable advices from Australia show the market there is now steady, prices running round about 120s.
Cheese. Canadian.—The market has taken an easier turn, and prices show a reduction of fid to Is per cwt. Choicest white and coloured are now quoted Oils to fils. New Zealand Cheese.—Stocks are now practically cleared. Any odd lots that are ottering an? being ouoted at 00s to 02s.
