"Settlers are not aware of, their own strength,'' declared the ilou. J. Austey, at a meeting iu Kketahuua. Kketahuua Express. That a considerable sum of money leaves Taranaki each year for the purchase of products from the .South there are few who would be likely to express a doubi, and althuugh the exigencies oi the dairying industry may be claimed as a powerful countw-force against agricultural pursuit* iu the ■profitable employment of land and labour, th.n'e should (with the addition of freight on the importations in strong evidence) exist an increasingly lucrative outlook for local agriculture.' Perhaps as a whole' there are few districts where such a remarkable uniformity in the good pastoral qualities, combined with suitable conformation of the land, exist for dairying pursuits, but there are always exceptions to be found. There may readily be seen areas which present themselves in comparatively unsuitable nature for the essentials of a dairy farm and it is in those localities that an increased revenue might be obtained through an altered demand upon their productive qualities.-—liawera Star.

This enormous increase during the last veal' has far overtaken t'he demand, and the stock in Manila is now 125,000, ana in the United Kingdom 81,000 bales, and the visible supply constitutes a record.
