FIRES ON THE HELGA. Wellington, Tuesday. Four days after leaving Newcastle the crew of fte barqucntinc Helga had 4 desperate conflict with a fire. About 10 o'clock smoke was seen issuing from the storeroom. An overturned lamp was the cause. I® half an hour the outbreak was extinguished. A small fire occurred a few davs later in the galley, in consequence of" the funnel being carried away. It •was easily extinguished. The C'orinna is due on Friday from ■ Dunedin via way ports. The Takapuna from Onehunga yesterdav morning brought 44 tons of cargo* Included in this were 161 sacks of flour, 120 bags oi sugar, and 66 cases of fruit. The Rotoiti from south yesterday . morning discharged 240 tons of cargo. This included transhipments ex Atheine and Kin Ora from London, Mocraki and Victoria, from Sydney, Mnrurna from • LyUflton, and Tarawera from Dunedin. The cargo -included 370 sacks of chaff. 200 sacks of manure, 10't cases of bn- ' cuits and confectionery (from Nelson), 60 eases of tea, 2581 feet of timber, 70 cases <>f kerosene, and 60 bags of salt. The Takapuna from Onehunga yestar- . day morning brought 44 tons of Food supplies and equipment for Lieutenant Shackleton and Jiis comrades of the Antarctic expedition, who are wintering ;it McMurdo Sound, were shipped from London ■ for Lyttelton l»y the steamer Paparou, which sailed on September 3rd, and from Liverpool by the steamer Surrey. They will be put on board the Nirnrod at Lyttelton. Meat, butter, cheese, woollen goods, etc., w:!l be procured in New Zealand.
