TONGAPOROTU. (From Our Own Correspondent). The s.s. i'itoitoi arrived here at 8."9 a.m. ou Sunday (11th inst.) direct from Oneliuuga. The cargo consisted of "00 drawn pipes, 200 kegs' of blasting powder, a few eases 01 gelignite for the Roads Department, and a small quantity of Hour for our local store. The drampipes are to be used 011 the Alain North ami Okau-.Mangaroa roads, and not before they are wanted, for the old wooden culverts have in some places rotten away. . . 1 hear that some sand-stoning is also to be done here this summer. 1 hope the rumour is true, for during the past winter that portion of the .Main North road that had not received a coat of sandstone commenced to cut up considerably. If allowed to go for another winter I am surcthat-it will take double the money to put it in order. Our cricket club opens the season 011 Saturday next with a match Married v. Single. The ladies have kindly offered to provide afternoon tea, so given fine weather an enjoyable day will be spent. Rumour says tliat a line of coaches is to start running 'between Waitara ana Te Kuiti early next month. If tins transpires it will be a lioon y to the I settlers along the main road.
