LONDON MARKET* Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report having received the following cable messages from their London office under date the Bth October, 1008:—"Wool.—.Sales continue active. Competition is brisk and buying is general from all quarters, owing to American competition. Good greasy merinos and line crossbreds: Any change in prices is in favor of sellers. Greasy crossbred wools, medium and coarse quality: Since our last telegram prices are 5 per cent, lower except foi wools suitable for America. Scoured merino and crossbred wools: Prices are irregular, and as compared with last series' closing rates prices are at par to 1 per cent, lower, the decline being more especially on faulty scoured wools. Frozen Meat. —Frozen beef: Market weak; chilled can be obtained at less than frozen. Mutton: Market quiet and prices unchanged. Lamb: IPriees are a shade higher and market is very linn. Stocks held are small, and wc think prices will advance. Tallow.—Market Arm, but prices are unchanged. The market is dull for arrival, but firm on 'PO'" HIGH COMMISSIONER'S CABLE. The Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following cablegram from the High Commissioner at London, dated October 10: — Frozen meat.—There is an endeavour amongst holders to raise the price* of mutton. There has been more inclination to purchase mutton during the past week tor forward delivery, and a niuji better ieeliug prevails. Current quotations are: Canterbury 4d. North Island 3'/ a d, River Plate :i Vid, The lamb market U steady, with improved demand. On account of the hue weather no change has taken place in prices, but the tendency is upward. The beef market is dull, with very little business doing. The market has been unfavourably affected by the large supply from America and the Argentine, and th-' weather lately has been unfavourable to the sale of beef. Hindquarters foreqtiarters 3%d.
Nutter.—The market is steady, but without animation. Danish is quoted at 124??, Siberian 108$, Canadian 110s. Cheese.—There has 'been no alteration in the cheese market since last week. There is little demand. Canadian brands Cls.
Hemp.—The market is quiet, with small business doing. Current quotations are:—On the spot: Oood fair grade 15s. fair grade £23, fair current manila .€23 Hk October to December shipment*, no change. Last week's output from Manila amounted to IM.OOO bales. Cocksfoot seed.—The market is very dull, and buyers not keen to do business. JJright clean 171b. seed is quoted at 84s per cwt. Wool.—Following are tlie Bradford quotations for current tops:—Thirtysixes low cross-breds tM/yd, fortys low ltfd, forty-fours medium cross-bmls 10% d. fifties half-bred* Is 3d, iifty-sixes quartcr-brcds Is sixties merinus Is lo%d.
Hops.—The market i* quiet but steady, the demand being chiefly for best quality. The quotation is unchanged.
Mr. Newton King has received the following cable from his Sydney agent Te hides: "Prime % d lower, others weaker."
