A NEW COAL MINE.
1 OFFICIAL OPENING. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Weslport, Last Niglit. The Westport-Stockcon Coal C'o.'s official opening took place at Xgakaiwau to-dav. A large number 0 t people travelled there by special train. Speeches were made by Mr luveee, chairman of directors, and ill'. Greenwood, Mayor of Wostport, who also turned the kindle of the ungine at the power house and set the whole of the machinery in motion. A rake of coal-tubs arrived at tile bins and was dealt, with there by electrical machinery. jOvvrythiilg worked smoothly. The visitors were afterwards entertained at a banquet, when speeches were made eulogistic of Mr. I'\ 0. Munro, promoter of the company, and Mr. G. 11. Broome,, the company's managing engineer, who •'■' aid there was coal-practically in sight for (10 years' output, with probably more to be located as the works d'eveloped. Tile plant is unique in N'ciw Zealand coal-mining, in that it is electrically driven from the mine to the luns. The company already has as many orders as it can immediately cone with.
