HEROIC RESCUES. DESTITUTION OF THE NATIVES. Calcutta, October 1. There were many lieroic rescues during the floods at Haidara-bad. The nurses of the Victoria Zenana Hospital saved the patients by carrying tlieni on to the roofs. Even the roofs wore almost covered by the floods. British officials in boats rescued many who bad climbed iuto trees and on to the tops of the temples. The river Musi, from a rushing toricat 00ft deep, became a trickling stream within two days. The flood has left many natives starving and destitute. These are looting grain and liquor from the shops in the devastated area. Catholic priests showed extreme heroism and coolness and immensely encouraged the panic-stricken natives.
