A MEETINC, S RiiSOLUTiUXS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christcllureh, Last Night. A public meeting of citizens w consider the canal scheme was held toiiigiiil, when addresses in favor of the construction of the canal and the establishment of a Canal League were delivered by prominent speakers. 'the following rc.-.ohiliolls were carried unan.iniously: —(1) That this meeting is of opinion that the construction "of the ship canal between the sea and Christchurch is essential to the welfare of the cily and districts adjoining; (2) That tins meeting affirms the principle 'that it is not advisable to spent a very large amount of capital on L-vt lei toil harbor until the question of construction of the canal has been more fully considered; (3) That an association be formed, to be called litre Christchureh Canal League, to promote the construction of the Christchureh canal, the association to consist of those persons who agree to their names being placed upon the roll of members, and who each agree lo contribute not less than Is to the funds of the association, and that the members of the committee he the first executive committee of the league, with power to add to their nnm'ber; (4) That copies of the resolutions adopted by the meotin» he forwarded to (he LyrMton Harbor Board.
