MEIKLE'S COMPENSATION.

Pra-sei, jnj.P. lor Napier, was banquettcd at Wynd'hani last night and presented with a gold locket asa recognition of his opposition to I'm"' .0000 grant to J. J Jleikle as compensation for wrongful detention in gaol. Mr. Prascr said he and his friends in Parliament would use every means in their power to prevent the grant being made. A resolution was passed protesting against anv further sum being voted, and calling on mcmliers of Parliament who placed principle before expediency to resist Ibc grant to fhehr utmost.
"Mr Meiklo also addressed a crowded and somewhat rowdy meeting ill another hall in the town.
