ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
■ INQUEST. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Dunodiii, Last Night. Tlie inquest on the body of Thomas (Jitrr, aged 21 years, who' (tied as the result of injuries sustained in consequence of an explosion on the Moana at I'ort Chalmers on September !), was opened to-day. No evidence was given as lo how tile explosion occurred, but statements were made to the effect that a tin containing a gallon or a gallon and a-lialf of benzine was in the store room at the time. The. tin was labelled, "Do not handle; benzine, dangerous." There were two small holes in the top of the tin. The medical evidence showed death was due to septic absorption following, on burns and cellulitis. The inquest was adjourned for a week to secure the evidence - of Nieol, who is still suffering from injuries received at tflic time of the explosion.
SUDDEN DEATHS. llokitika, Monday. John Venice, a witness for Hip.'defence in the perjury case, died suddenly this morning. Jle had been drinking for some time, and a doctor who was called in last night intended to remove the patient to the hospital to-day, but when he was being dressed Pea row suddenly expired. His said that deceased had lieen suffering from a miners' complaint. i Wellington, Monday. A young man named llolton died suddenly at the 'hospital last evening, having only been admitted a short time before, lie apparently was suffering from u fit.
